What does Treaty mean today? Spirit of Treaty 8 is an upcoming documentary that takes audiences on a journey across Canada’s great North, exploring the past, present, and future of Treaty 8 through the voices of Indigenous communities. From the lands now known as British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories, this film uncovers the living spirit of Treaty and its significance in today’s world.
Directed by award-winning Haida filmmaker Nang Ḵ’uulas Patrick Shannon and produced by Kelly Kenny in partnership with The City of Fort St. John and the Treaty 8 BC Association, Spirit of Treaty 8 brings Indigenous stories to the forefront, sharing powerful perspectives on sovereignty, resilience, and the enduring promises of Treaty.
